How to Download West Bengal Caste Certificate PDF / জাতি শংসাপত্র ডাউনলোড (castcertificatewb.gov.in)

Once your SC, ST, or OBC certificate application (Jati Shongsapatra / জাতি শংসাপত্র) is verified by the BDO and approved by the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) or DWO Kolkata, an official digitally signed PDF is generated. Learn how to download and print your original certificate from the official portal or sync it to DigiLocker.

When Can You Download Your Certificate?

Your digital certificate is generated only after your local BDO inquiry is completed, the Bongshobrikkho chart is accepted, and the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) digitally signs the file. If your application status still says “Under Scrutiny” or “Hearing Scheduled”, wait until the status updates to “Approved”.

Method 1: Direct Download via Official West Bengal Portal

Step 1: Open the Certificate Download Section

Visit castcertificatewb.gov.in and select “Download Certificate” (or “View Certificate Details”) from the applicant menu.

Step 2: Enter Application or Certificate Number

Type in your unique Application Number or newly generated Certificate Number, along with the applicant's legal name as submitted during registration.

Step 3: Download & Print Original PDF

Click “Download Certificate”. The official colored PDF document will download directly to your mobile or computer with the authentic state emblem, QR code, and SDO digital signature.

Method 2: Pull into DigiLocker App (Permanent Cloud Storage)

The Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal is integrated with the National DigiLocker ecosystem:

  1. Log into the DigiLocker website or app using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  2. Go to Search Documents and type “Backward Classes Welfare Department, West Bengal”.
  3. Select Caste Certificate from the service list.
  4. Enter your Certificate Number and click “Get Document”.
  5. The digitally verified PDF is permanently synced to your DigiLocker account and holds equal legal standing under Section 9A of the IT Act 2000.

No Physical SDO Signature Required on Downloaded PDF

The computer-generated certificate downloaded from castcertificatewb.gov.in contains a cryptographic digital signature and an encrypted QR code. Anyone (colleges, WBCS, WBPSC, or recruiting boards) can scan the QR code to verify authenticity instantly on the official government server. It does not require any manual stamp or physical seal from the SDO office.

“Digital Signature Pending” Error

If your application status shows Approved but attempting to download displays an error stating that the digital signature is pending, do not worry. This indicates the SDO has authorized the file in the database but has not yet plugged in the USB crypto-token for batch signing. It automatically clears within 48 to 72 hours.

Pre-2014 Manual Certificates

Older handwritten caste certificates issued before the centralized online portal (pre-2014) cannot be downloaded directly online. You must apply for online digitization by submitting your original manual booklet along with Aadhaar and family details at your local BDO or SDO BCW section.
