Documents Required for Delhi Caste Certificate (SC, ST & OBC)

To obtain a valid caste certificate on e-District Delhi (edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in), applicants must satisfy strict statutory benchmarks enacted by the Revenue Department, Government of NCT of Delhi. Preparing clear, self-attested digital copies of your pre-cutoff residence proofs (1951 for SC, 1993 for OBC) prevents application rejection and delays during Patwari field inspection.

3. Other Backward Classes (OBC) & NCL Requirements

4. Migrant SC & ST Enclosure Requirements

Migrant Category

If the family migrated to Delhi after the statutory cutoff:

  • Father's Caste Certificate from Origin State: Original certificate issued by a competent authority (Tehsildar/SDO/DM) in the parent state.
  • Proof of Paternal Migration: Train tickets, first arrival ration card, or school admission records in Delhi documenting when the family migrated.
  • Present Delhi Residence: Minimum proof of continuous current stay in Delhi (Aadhaar or local utility bills).

Strict Legal Rule for Married Women (Valsamma Paul Precedent)

Under Supreme Court of India precedents and Delhi Revenue Department circulars, caste is determined strictly by biological birth from the father. A woman born to general category parents cannot claim reservation by marrying an SC or OBC spouse.

Married female applicants must strictly submit their biological father's pre-cutoff residence documents and paternal caste certificates. Applications citing husband's caste or husband's pre-1951/1993 papers are rejected.

Frequently Asked Questions: Delhi Documents Checklist

Note that migrant SC status confers benefits for Central Government institutions and UPSC, but not for GNCTD / DSSSB state quotas under the Subhash Chandra ruling.
No. In accordance with Supreme Court rulings in Valsamma Paul and Delhi Revenue Department regulations, caste status is strictly determined by biological birth. Married women must provide their father's pre-cutoff residence proofs and paternal lineage documents. Husband's caste documents are legally invalid.
