How to Track UP Caste Certificate Status Online Without Login
In Uttar Pradesh, you do not need to log into the eSathi portal every time you want to check the progress of your caste certificate. The Government of UP provides a 100% free, public tracking feature directly on the main e-District portal (edistrict.up.gov.in).
- Visit the official e-District portal at edistrict.up.gov.in/edistrictup .
- On the right-hand side of the homepage, locate the box titled "आवेदन की स्थिति" (Application Status).
- Enter your 14-digit to 16-digit Application Number (आवेदन संख्या) (e.g.
2617XXXXXXXXXXXX) that was generated on your payment slip. - Click the magnifying glass 🔍 (Search icon). A popup window will display your file's real-time journey: which Lekhpal has the file, when it was forwarded, and whether any inquiry note was registered.
Decoding Your UP Status: What Each Message Means
When you check your status on e-District UP, you will encounter one of these specific administrative remarks:
"आवेदन संबंधित तहसीलदार को अग्रसारित किया गया" (Forwarded to Tehsildar)
Your application and ₹15 fee payment have been verified by the central eSathi server. The file is now in the electronic inbox of your Sub-Division / Tehsil headquarters.
"आवेदन जांच हेतु लेखपाल को अग्रसारित" (Assigned to Area Lekhpal)
The Tehsildar has marked your application to the Halka Lekhpal (हल्का लेखपाल) of your village (or Town Inspector for urban wards). The Lekhpal will inspect family land records (Khatauni / Khasra), verify your father's ancestry, and cross-reference with the Gram Panchayat register.
"लेखपाल द्वारा आख्या प्रस्तुत / कानूनगो द्वारा अग्रसारित" (Report Submitted by Lekhpal)
The Lekhpal has submitted a positive verification report into the portal. The file has passed through the Revenue Inspector (Kanoongo / कानूनगो) and is now awaiting the Tehsildar's digital signature.
"आवेदन निस्तारित / प्रमाण पत्र तैयार" (Approved & Disposed)
The Tehsildar has approved and digitally signed your caste certificate with an official cryptographic DSC token. Your certificate is immediately available for download in your eSathi dashboard under "निस्तारित आवेदन".
"आवेदन निरस्त / आपत्ति दर्ज" (Rejected or Objection Raised)
The Lekhpal or Tehsildar rejected the file. The rejection reason is clearly stated in Hindi (e.g., "स्वप्रमाणित घोषणा पत्र संलग्न नहीं है" or "जाति की पुष्टि नहीं हुई"). See our rejection resolution steps below.
What to Do if Your UP Caste Certificate Is Delayed Past 15 Days
Under the UP Janhit Guarantee Act (उत्तर प्रदेश जनहित गारंटी अधिनियम), the statutory timeframe for issuing a caste certificate is strictly 15 to 20 working days. If an officer sits on your file without reason, follow these official escalation channels:
Dial 1076 from any mobile phone in UP. Provide your Application Number. The CM Helpline operator registers an official Chief Minister Office (CMO) grievance against the concerned Tehsil. The Tehsildar is given 3 working days to either clear your application or provide a written explanation.
Held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at your local Tehsil office, presided over by the District Magistrate (DM) or SDM. You can present your Application Slip directly to the DM for instantaneous on-the-spot resolution.
Visit the UP Government's Jansunwai portal, register a complaint under the Revenue Department with your Application Number, and track the time-bound inquiry report submitted by the SDM.
